<text>Adolph Gottlieb (1903 - 1974)

In 1919, young Adolph Gottlieb dropped out of high school to pursue his passion for painting. As a teenager, Gottlieb attended the Art Students League in New York, studied, and listened to a lot of influential artists like Robert Henri, John Sloan, and a crossover group of people who fought to strengthen the modern art movement called "The Eight." In 1921, he went to Paris to study art and was exposed to classical and modern art movements, such as fauvism and Cubism. In 1922, he finished his studies at Parsons and Cooper Union in New York after moving back from France. Gottlieb, having exposed to artworks from all around Europe, was convinced that American paintings were to restrained and dull. He strove to develop a new style of painting based on what he saw in Europe.

In1935, Gottlieb and his fellow artist friend, Rothko, founded "The Ten," a group of ten American artists who sought to promote abstract art. They emphasized the importance of the subconscious and the symbolic in art, a Theme that would become central to Gottlieb's work. In the mid-1940s, Gottlieb made one of his more famous series, the "Pictographs." These works combined abstract forms with enigmatic symbols, exploring the relationship between the conscious and unconscious mind. The Pictographs represented a break from the major trends in American art at the time and signaled the artist's commitment to forging his own path.

Gottlieb's work was deeply informed by his interest in myth, symbolism, and the human psyche reflected his belief in the universality of human experience. His "Bursts" series exemplify this approach, consisting of bold, dynamic compositions. Throughout his career, Gottlieb continued to evolve as an artist. n the 1950s, he created the "Imaginary Landscape" series, featuring vibrant, multi-layered canvases that captured the energy and complexity of the modern world.

Adolph Gottlieb's legacy extends far beyond his own lifetime. His work has been exhibited in major museums around the world, and his ideas continue to influence contemporary artists. His commitment to pushing the boundaries of art, his exploration of the subconscious, and his use of symbols and conventional forms have left a lasting mark on the world of abstract art. </text>
